Ikeja Disco injects N1b in power infrastructure upgrade

THE Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) has injected about N1billion to improve electricity supply through the completed and ongoing projects within its network.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Abiodun Ajifowobaje, who made this disclosure during an the official visit of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) to the company in Lagos, said the management had spent over N1 billion on system development and projects completion as against the N600 million for quick intervention on transformers installations and pre-paid meter installations.

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company boss said about 50 transformers had been installed to boost electricity supply, while about 115 pending transformers projects have been completed in various sites.

He said about 40 transformers that were faulty had been rehabilitated, while the 52 vandalised transformers had been restored back to the system. Ajifowobaje said that over 2,500 pre-paid meters had been installed in various locations to customers within the network to address challenges faced on overbilling and estimated billings.

The company will soon commence on re-metering customers within the zone and also continue some overhead line clearance, which often causes network disability, he added, saying “going forward, we are going to commence on other source of energy supply such as the embedded energy that we are talking with some operators.”
