Ikeja Electric Quality Health Safety & Environment Department Holds Safety Village Meeting

In what can only be described as an uncommon commitment to the tenets of Organizational Safety and in line with IE’s core values Ikeja Electric has organized and held its first “Technical Safety Village Meeting”. The event, which held Saturday, 2nd February, 2019 witnessed an impressive turnout of about 1,200 Technical staff who defied the heavy early morning downpour and the traffic bottlenecks from the Lagos Marathon to attend the meeting.

The program, which was convened to set everyone on the path of the company’s “Mission Zero- Take Ownership” campaign for the year stressed on IE’s zero tolerance for breaches relating to Health and Safety Policies and Procedure all in a bid to achieving Zero Accidents to staff and third-parties.

The interactive meeting had inputs from Senior Management members, led by the Chief Technical Coordinator, Engr Sunday Oyewole, Chief Network Optimization Officer, Engr Abdullahi Mohammed, Head Technical Operations, Engr Jide Kumapayi as well as the Business Manager, Ikorodu, Mr. Rotimi Famoroti.

In a positive show of support, contributions were received from representatives of the leadership of both SSAEC and NUEE, IE’s primary Union bodies, both stressing on the importance of Safety in a high-risk sector.

The QHSE team, led by Engr Jamiu Badmos, took the opportunity to review past accident case studies following which Engr Jamiu charged all present to take ownership, act responsibly and ensure that they all get home safely. He assured them of the Management’s commitment to the “Mission Zero” Campaign, but however warned that defaulters will also not be accommodated within the group as vigilant monitoring teams were on constant patrol to ensure full compliance.
