Ikeja Electric Reaffirms Support For Education Sector Development


…Donates Bags, Books To School To Commemorate Children’s Day 2018.

As global attention turned to children across the world on Children’s Day 2018, Ikeja Electric, Nigeria’s largest electricity distribution company, has reaffirmed its commitment to support government’s efforts in promoting quality primary education and contributing to the growth of the sector through its Personal-Corporate Social Responsibility (PCSR) initiatives.

While commemorating this year’s Children’s Day at G.R.A Nursery and Primary School, Ojota, Lagos, the company had an interactive session with the pupils by donating educational items and also educating them on how to use electricity safely.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ikeja Electric, Mr. Anthony Youdeowei, who was represented by Head, Audit, Ikeja Electric, Mr. Waheed Gbadamosi, emphasized that the Company would continue to improve its services to the benefit of consumers under its network including children.

According to him electricity plays a vital role in the lives of every child as it gives light for them to read and also powers television through which children can watch educational programmes.

The students were however urged to apply safety measures at all times while enjoying electricity. Ile Okoh of the Ikeja Electric’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department, urged the students to avoid playing near electrical transformers and appliances.

Other members of the Ikeja Electric team who visited the school included the Undertaking Manager, Shomolu Business Unit, Engr. Taofik Basanya; Brands & Event Manager, Mrs. Titilola Aikhomu among others. G.R.A Nursery and Primary School, is a public primary school that also caters for special pupils.

While appreciating Ikeja Electric for the initiative, Head Teacher, G.R.A Nursery and Primary School, Mrs. Afolake Oke-Bello, commended the company for donating the educational items to the school to encourage the students in their studies. She said: “This is no doubt a commendable effort from Ikeja Electric. We are happy and grateful to Ikeja Electric for coming to celebrate this year’s Children’s Day with us.”

The students applauded Ikeja Electric for bring smiles to their faces by celebrating the Children’s Day with them. Faith Abiona, a primary 6 student said: “We are very happy to see Ikeja Electric in our school to celebrate the Children’s Day with us. We pray that God blesses them.”
