Suspect Who Stabbed IE Staff Arrested, Arraigned, Pleads Guilty

Following  the launch of an intensive manhunt aimed at apprehending suspects who were implicated in the assault on a linesman from Ipaja Undertaking, a key arrest has been made!

The attack, masterminded by a certain Rotimi Bamigbade, who has been apprehended, was carried out by four assailants who on Monday, 18th February, assaulted the linesman with bottles and sticks, stabbing him repeatedly and dispossessing him of personal properties. Rotimi Bamigbade, was subsequently detained and arraigned at the Magistrate Court 14 Ogba on five counts of conspiracy to commit felony; breach of peace; obstructing official duty; assault occasioning harm and stealing.

Mr. Bamigbade pleaded guilty to all the counts except stealing. He has been remanded to the Ikoyi Maximum Prisons pending the perfection of his stiff bail terms. While the case has been adjourned to the 18th March, 2019 for prison sentencing, efforts are still underway to ensure that other suspects still at large are apprehended.

IE recently issued a press statement which read in part that “ Ikeja Electric Plc, in line with her obligation to provide service under a conducive atmosphere to its customers, will as a matter of course, continue to escalate such matters to law enforcement agencies and will promptly withdraw its services from communities and customers that prove too hostile to operate in”.

The statement, which urged customers to explore peaceful means of redress, counselled against attacks on staff as Ikeja Electric would explore all legal means to prosecute offenders.
