The IE Safetainability School, a flagship training institution powered by Sahara Group, today held its official 2025 Matriculation Ceremony, ushering in 389 students across five leading companies within the group: Ikeja Electric, Egbin Power, FIPL, Sahara Group Limited, and Asharami Energy.
The Matriculation Ceremony marks the formal commencement of an intensive three-month learning journey focused on equipping employees with cutting-edge skills in safety, sustainability, innovation, and leadership. The IE Safetainability School commenced in 2024 and graduated 194 students out of the 408 admitted.
In her opening remarks, Ejiro Gray, Director of the School, welcomed the incoming cohort and charged them to commit fully to the program. “Give this experience what it requires. The knowledge and skills you gain here must be applied directly to your community and deliverables to improve productivity, drive growth, and build a safe and sustainable future,” she said.
Delivering the admission statistics, Chief Academic Officer, Engr. Olaniyi Olayiwola confirmed the intake of 281 males and 108 females, a significant milestone in the School’s commitment to SDG 5 – Gender Equality. He emphasized the rigour of the academic program and the high standards expected of the students. “This School is not a walk in the park. Only the best will emerge successful. We are training a new kind of leader, one who understands that safety and sustainability are non-negotiable,” he stated.
He also announced the introduction of new specialized courses, including Project Management, Human Resource Management, Sustainable Data Analytics (Sustainalytics), Business Continuity, Artificial Intelligence, Innovation and Strategy.
In a goodwill message delivered on her behalf by Engr. Olajide Kumapayi, Chief Technical Officer, Ikeja Electric, Folake Soetan, Vice Chancellor of the School and CEO of Ikeja Electric, encouraged students to remain focused, disciplined, and resilient. “You have been selected because of your potential. Stay the course, engage fully, and let this opportunity transform your professional journey,” she said. She also commended the Faculty and the Sahara Group leadership for their continuous support and dedication to learning and development.
The IE Safetainability School continues to be a model of excellence in employee development, fostering a future where safety, innovation, and sustainability go hand-in-hand in transforming Africa’s energy and infrastructure space.
