Top management staff of Nigeria’s largest electricity distribution company, Ikeja Electric (IE) has presented its Power Play Board Game to the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
The game was designed as an education and entertainment tool, which provides information relating to hazards and common violations, as well as other operational aspects of electricity use.
Head Corporate Communications, Felix Ofulue, said the company is committed to raising the bar on safety standards in the industry, noting that the initiative evolved out of concern for Ikeja Electric’s customers safety and well-being.
“Research shows that a lot of domestic accident happens at home due to electricity use and we thought of how to educate the masses, which led us to develop a game bothering on hazards and violations. We are giving this game to the university, which will be distributed to all the halls of residence for the playing pleasure and education of the students.”
Receiving the board game, Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, commended the firm for the gesture. “The major problem we have is that we assume we know so many things but in the end we are ignorant of a lot of things that can endanger our lives, which is why we support this gesture of enlightening us on the hazards of electricity use.”
